Video Marketing
Today I participated in an interesting professional discussion with colleagues about what is “visual marketing”? The correspondence turned out to be so humorous, and so fundamentally important for positioning a colleague - a producer of video content. Perhaps, what he heard will help promote his services, and what is repeated here, to one of his colleagues, will choose the right contractor for video production.
What is video marketing?
Well, in general, marketing is to satisfy the consumer with goods and services (see the definition of the term " marketing concept " in the marketer's dictionary).
Therefore, "visual marketing" (adding up the meanings of two words) is, in a way, how to satisfy the consumer by looking at goods and services. Not funny, no? :)
If you want to do what you are persistently doing, to present it to people more heavily and meaningfully, then you should not make any big efforts to develop this business. You just need to attach the word marketing to the title of this lesson. :)
That is, "video marketing", as a result, familiarization with the terms from the dictionary, it turns out to show the consumer the goods and think that the consumer is satisfied with only one of his views and that no other marketing efforts from the marketing mix (4P) are needed. So yes? Doesn’t it bother you? : D Nothing bothers anyone at all, I understand!
Why did I remember about 4P again? Well, from another definition:
Marketing is a complex activity . Activities to create goods, build a distribution system, including promotion and (think only) price management. Somewhere nearby are branding and positioning. This and only this is called marketing.
Visual marketing takes pride of place among such absurdities as:
Tactile marketing - I got the goods and was satisfied;
Content-marketing - as a marketing mix, to pester readers with texts;
Audience marketing - well, you understand. Yes!?
Poetic marketing;
Music marketing;
Photo marketing;
Picture marketing;
And of course, “aroma marketing” is to stink the consumer with perfume and decide that the consumer is satisfied with this. Prices, shelves, goods, promotion - the consumer does not need.
Not funny, no? In general, when answering a colleague’s question, visual marketing is the same as “video PR”, “visual product” or “youtube marketing”
The farther into the forest ...
Thus, to his colleague’s formulated “wish of every success”, he received an answer from him:
The same thing you said can be said about Internet marketing and content marketing. And it is right. It’s just more convenient to name promotion, PR and advertising on the Internet as Internet marketing. It so happened, a pun.
Oops! As often happens in marketing, disagreement with something marketing is the outward manifestation of the deep problem of ignorance of the principles themselves.
That is, if it’s not on the Internet, but on Youtube. If this is about video, then "marketing, PR and advertising" on this site of video hosting can be called Youtube marketing? And if you try to do this by posting ads on posts, then this is called post-marketing?
Friends mentioned by a colleague in vain are the terms: promotion, PR and advertising also have definitions. I’ll say more, “promotion” is also a complex work. Look what is included in the promotion mix , find the video there ... But just doing this comprehensively, you really do promotion.
And what does the PR mentioned by a colleague have to do with it? PR is generally a management function of marketing . To add the word video to PR is how to say “tax accounting”, “soldering iron physics” or “vodka chemistry”.
Friends, I really don’t understand, as a colleague writes, “happened” is that where it is? Who has such a mess in my head? Is it convenient for whom?
Colleagues, I understand that for someone it’s convenient to call “black” “white”. Someone is comfortable, sorry, urinating without taking off his pants. I understand that for someone personal convenience is a measure of what a person does. We are talking about marketing. In this area, everything is built on the need to make it “convenient for people.” And no other way. Do you agree?
Yes, indeed, instead of comprehending what they are doing and what the consumer needs, the producers of something, including video, conveniently use cliches - well, if everyone says that, then I will say that too. What does following cliches lead to? For example, instead of making separate landing pages for each of the following requests to Yandex (with the meaning of texts, pictures, messages), it’s convenient to make one “landing”
Yes, convenient! And this eliminates the need to not only comprehend what you are selling, it will really save time and money. Just repeating what your competitors write is easier. Yes indeed! I don’t understand one thing: do you need more customers or you need to live easier ?!
Who are those people who should be comfortable and understandable what we say? Here is a marketing manager for a fairly large company and, in a way, a potential consumer of video production and rental services. I don’t understand the strange combination of the words “video marketing”!
Well, let's not talk about me, but about a certain potential consumer of video production and a portrait of such a consumer:
higher economic or marketing education;
reads something about marketing all the time;
has experience, including experience in using video products for marketing purposes;
has a professional, well-established vocabulary, convenient and habitually used in work.
The consumer of video, by marketing, understands not only what Philip Kotler defined, but also what he does every day: marketing is the creation and management of goods and services; pricing and price control; comprehensive promotion work; ensuring a market presence and control over the distribution of goods. And this is absolutely, that is, definitely not at all what the colleague suggests. Do you understand?
Where does video marketing come from?
But "visual marketing" is also quite often used (as much as 150 times a month). Where and by whom? We open the Internet and what do we see? This phrase is on the vast majority of sites:
Some minors fag poorly educated personalities who have 1-5 home video about themselves in their assets, shot on a domestic camera;
For consultants, they don’t write words and text for their own videos in advance;
The agencies, consisting of 2-5 full-time employees and doing everything on a contract, including with the involvement of just specialists in video production.
Unable to produce a professional video product, lacking the proper equipment and a sufficient level of personnel, they simply cannot write “video production”, but the clumsy “video marketing” is always readily uttered by suckers and scammers!
Clinging to the word “marketing” to everyone in a row, they speak with customers a “convenient for themselves” language - the language of suckers and promotion of suckers. They are trying to communicate with those for whom marketing is their life. Why listen to them for those involved in the actual production of video or the purchase of production services?
As soon as you hear from someone "doing video marketing" - run away! Is this a sucker or a divorce will necessarily follow!
Well, simply because the real manufacturer will always say differently: "I produce video ads, shoot videos, roll ads." He is never ashamed to say professional: "I am engaged in video production."
Video Advertising and Marketing
Thus, even skeptics should understand that marketing is the principles of market activity and integrated management. What is the place of video in this video complex and what is its role in marketing? Video is a tool to help you better promote visually appealing products and services. Video advertising allows you to demonstrate to the consumer something that cannot be profitably demonstrated by other verbal and non-verbal methods of communication.
At the same time, video advertising, as one of a large number of advertising methods, is included by marketers in the promotion mix (promotion complex); video advertising is not an independent marketing tool and does not solve the whole range of tasks set for marketers. It helps, it helps a lot! The note on the link describes whatadvertising is different from marketing . If it is important for you to finally put an end to this issue, then I highly recommend a simple, accessible presentation of the topic.
About content marketing
About the fact that there is "content marketing" ... So, according to the same pattern, logic, and because of the low level of education in marketing who pronounce this phrase, it exists. There are those who are associated with video, they poorly understand the role of video in the promotion complex and promotion for marketing. There are others who write texts and do not understand the role of text in marketing. All the same ! And they both do not know the definition and do not care about the terms.
